ADVISORY BOARD PROCEDURES AND PRINCIPLES
SECTION ONE
General Provisions
Purpose and Scope
Article 1-(1) (Changed: SD 03/09/2025-562-B2) These procedures and principles cover the regulations regarding the formation and operation of Advisory Boards to be established within the academic units of Izmir University of Economics with the aim of contributing to education, teaching, and research activities and developing relationships with the business world and other stakeholders.
Basis
Article 2- (1) (Changed: SD 03/09/2025-562-B2) These procedures and principles have been prepared pursuant to the provisions of Regulation on Advisory Board Establishment in Higher Education Institutions published in Official Gazette dated 08.10.2016 and numbered 29851.
Definitions
Article 3- (Changed: SD 03/09/2025-562-B2)
(1) The references in these procedures and principles are as follows;
a) Academic Unit: an institute, faculty, school, or vocational school affiliated with Izmir University of Economics,
b) Academic Unit Administrator: Dean of Faculty, Director of School, Director of Graduate School, and Director of Vocational School of Izmir University of Economics.
SECTION TWO
Establishment, Operation, and Duties of Advisory Board
Establishment of Advisory Board
Article 4 - (Changed: SD 03/09/2025-562-B2)
(1) The Advisory Boards are as follows:
a) University Advisory Board
b) Academic Unit Advisory Boards
(2) The University Advisory Board is formed by a Senate decision upon the recommendation of the Rector from among respected and successful individuals and institutional representatives in relevant fields, as well as alumni, and is dissolved by the same procedure when necessary. The number of members is at least five. Changes in membership are approved by the Senate.
(3) Academic Unit Advisory Boards are appointed from among respected and successful individuals and institutional representatives in the relevant fields, as well as alumni, by decision of the relevant academic unit board decision and with the approval of the Senate, and are removed by the same procedure when necessary. The number of members is at least 5. The advisory board established in the units is referred to by the name of the relevant academic unit. Changes in membership are approved by the relevant academic unit board and reported to the Rector's Office.
(4) The Rector is a natural member and president of the University Advisory Board, while the relevant academic unit administrator is a natural member and president of the academic unit advisory board.
(5) The term of office, for Advisory Board members, is three years. Members whose terms have expired may be re-elected.
(6) The advisory boards established may be dissolved by a Senate decision.
Operation of Advisory Board
Article 5 - (Changed: SD 03/09/2025-562-B2)
(1) Advisory Board convenes at least once a year upon the invitation of the Chairman with an absolute majority.
(2) The President determines who will serve as rapporteur for the Advisory Board. Rapporteurs are not required to be members of the Advisory Board.
(3) The minutes of the Advisory Board meetings are evaluated by the relevant academic unit boards and compiled into a report each year, which is submitted to the administrators of the academic units to which they belong. The minutes of the University Advisory Board meetings are evaluated by the Senate or the University Administrative Board, depending on the subject matter.
Duties of Advisory Board
Article 6 - (Changed: SD 03/09/2025-562-B2) (1) The Advisory Board's role is to contribute to education and training, research, social contribution, and internationalization activities; to make recommendations aimed at developing relationships with the business world and other stakeholders; and to provide opinions on matters requested by the University and/or the relevant academic unit.

Other Provisions
Amendments (Article added: SD 03/09/2025-562-B2)
Article 6/A- (1) These procedures and principles may be amended by a Senate decision.
Enforcement
Article 7- (1) (Changed: SD 03/09/2025-562-B2) The Rector of the Izmir University of Economics enforces the provisions of these procedures and principles.
Effectiveness
Article 8- (1) (Changed: SD 03/09/2025-562-B2) These procedures and principles take effect on the date accepted by the Senate of Izmir University of Economics.
These principles have taken effect with Senate Decision dated 16.01.2019 and numbered 356-10, and with Board of Trustees Decision dated 12.02.2019 and numbered 16.
